A central heating system is a great addition to any home, but a less than desired addition is the rust that starts to appear on your radiators. A common problem is rust and its left up to you to do something about it. Unfortunately there are some homeowners that don’t care about their radiators, but leaving it won’t make it get any better. If you have visitors coming round, the last thing you want is to have rusty radiators on show. Therefore, if you’ve come across rust on your radiators, it about time you did something about it.

For the sake of this article, we’ll call this central heating spring cleaning. With a memorable name like this, there are plenty of reasons why you should take some time out to do central heating maintenance. It might be that you need to clean the heavy pile of dust off the radiators, but today we’re going to focus on getting rid of that persistent rust.

For arguments sake, assume you are a single mother with central heating Newcastle. You have organised for some friends to come over but you’re concerned about your unsightly radiators. In Newcastle, just like other places in the UK, first impressions are important and if you have rusty old radiators they won’t impress your visitors. It might not even be visitors that are coming over – it could be that you’re trying to sell your home, in which case you need to make sure that rusty radiators are absolutely nowhere to be seen! So, this is just to show that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you live – if you have old and shabby radiators you need to do something about it and there are some great tips provided below.

Tip1: Rust is common, and it is caused by corrosive water in the central heating system. The first thing to do is to strip back the surface to bare metal. Apply a paint and varnish stripper and then clean the radiator properly.
Tip 2: After this, prime the metal using a metal primer and this will seal the surface.
Tip 3: Once the radiator is dry you might want to apply radiator enamel.
Tip 4: Head down to your local DIY store to pick up all these bits and more – there’s a great selection to choose from.
Tip 5: A really good piece of advice is to make sure you don’t use ordinary wall paint on radiators as this can react with the heat emitted from the radiator and cause problems.

These are essential tips for giving the radiators that are part of your central heating system a new face.
