Getting Your Life Organized Following Your Wedding

0

Regardless of the exhaustion you may feel after your wedding and honeymoon, there is still plenty to do to get started in your new life. The reason couples plan a honeymoon right after the wedding is to give them time away to relax before a new round of chores begins. You are beginning a whole new life after getting married and it is natural that a few changes will need to be taken care of. Many couples choose this time to buy a new home. Moving is a huge undertaking, so if you wait to do it right after the wedding and honeymoon, it will give you a chance to feel as if you are really starting something new. After you are settled get started on the seemingly endless paperwork that lies ahead. Your first task will be changing and updating your legal documents. Your Worcester auto insurance policy and Worcester rental property insurance, if you are renting instead of buying, will need to have both you and your spouse’s names for coverage.

Be sure to speak with your employer about adding or changing any benefits documents. Once you are married your spouse can be added to the policies. This may offer you a chance to cover their medical care or provide for you should the unexpected occur. Speak with your human resources representative to make sure all of the papers are filled out properly and signed.

Next, handle the task of changing your name, should you choose to do so. Many women, continue to use their maiden name especially if they are marrying later in life. However, those who are making the change will need to complete a great deal of paperwork. There are name change kits that help you stay organized and cover all of your bases, or you can handle it all from scratch on your own. Some items to consider include your driver’s license, your work ID, and your personal stationary.

If you are adding your spouse to your bank accounts, you may need to plan an in-person visit to make the changes. Most places need both of you to appear in person so you can complete the forms. This may take a long time, so clear some time in your schedules together to complete the task.

Finally, there will be things to handle differently during tax time. The first year you are married, consider seeing a tax professional for assistance. This will help you process everything in the correct manner and ensure your return is correct. Remember your name change will come into play during tax season, so get these forms filled out beforehand.
